Comics are for everyone!
Photographer is Charles “Teenie” Harris; the source site says it’s circa 1940-45, but I looked up what comics I could make out and most of those comics are cover dated March/April 1947. Wish I could tell what she was reading and giggling about!

The Huffington Post points out that retired U.S. Marine Scott Olsen, seriously injured by Oakland cops who hurled a tear gas canister at his head then threw a flash grenade near his crumpled body as fellow demonstrators tried to help him, served not one but TWO tours in Iraq -- and never suffered an injury.
So Oakland’s cops did what sniper’s bullets, improvised explosive devices and rocket-propelled grenades couldn’t: they hurt a U.S. soldier.
Good job, Oakland PD.

Meet the 23-year-old Carty twins. Jill (left) graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with dual degrees in international studies and business, and now works as a consultant at a major financial services firm. She’s well on her way into the “1 percent.” Nicole has a sociology degree from Brown and spends her days on the front lines of Occupy Wall Street.
“It’s misplaced passion,” said Jill of her sister’s devotion to the struggle. “She could be even more powerful if she worked in economics, using the tools of Wall Street to fight back.”
The twins’ mother, Rhoda Carty, 58, also wanted Nicole to use her Ivy League education as a springboard into a more financially rewarding profession.
“If it were up to me, I would have liked her to study economics,” said Rhoda Carty by phone from her home in Atlanta, where she raised her girls after immigrating from the Caribbean.
“But my father was something of a revolutionary on Anguilla, and I think it may be in Nicole’s DNA,” she said. “She has her mother’s full support. I do feel that it’s time for a paradigm shift.”

LED Lights Make Augmented Vision a Reality
Okay, this is just freaky. We know LED lights are versatile enough to be used for practically anything, but LED contact lenses? Really?! Yes, as it turns out, really. University of Washington researchers have figured out how to implant semitransparent red and blue LED lights in contact lenses, for the purpose of receiving and displaying data in sharp visual images and video. This means wearers will literally be able to watch TV or view photos that are projected directly onto their eyeballs.
Once miniature green LEDs are developed (and they’re in the works, as of now), full color displays will be possible. Once that happens, the possibilities are endless. Think about everything your smart phone can do right now, and imagine the same being possible for your eyeball. This news is a little scary and a lot fascinating, if you ask me—at the very least, with LED contact lenses, your hands would be free to pet your robot or tinker with your hover board.
Lead researcher Babak Parvis comments “You won’t necessarily have to shift your focus to see the image generated by the contact lens,” it would just appear in front of you and your view of the real world will be completely unobstructed when the display is turned off.
Ah, the real world. With augmented reality becoming a reality, it feels like the real world is fast becoming a relic of the past.
